Synopsis:
Set
just after the independence of Malaysia from the British in 1957, the
film unfolds an intricately facetted story of self-discovery and
forbidden love between a British Officer and a beautiful Muslim Malay
dancer. Beginning in present day Malaysia, a world-famous but painfully
lonely photographer, Latiff, sets out on a photographic expedition
across Malaysia. On his journey he is haunted by startling visions that
remind him of a forgotten childhood. Slowly a fragmented story emerges,
and Latiff comes to understand the significance of the Red Kebaya, a
traditional Malay outfit, and the unspeakable secret that transformed
his life.
